My good old friend Winona from Tacoma Washington sent me the following interesting question. Do the Seraphim first appear in the Hebrew Bible? The answer to that question is yes, the Seraphim are first mentioned in the Tanakh or Old Testament of the Bible. They appear in the book of Isaiah in Chapter 6, verses1 through 3, when the prophet tells of his heavenly vision. Isaiah states that he can see the Seraphim hovering around God's throne, singing "holy, holy, holy is the Lord of heavenly hosts, the whole earth is filled with his glory". It is here that the world is first introduced to the Seraphim angels, with Isaiah even giving a brief description of what the angels look like. He states that they each had six wings, and with two wings they covered their face, with two wings they covered their feet, and with the remaining two they flew. Isaiah does not however mention how many Seraphim that he saw, though he refers to them as plural.
