Mahmoud from East Jerusalem Palestine emailed me the following question. Are Seraphim notable in the Eastern Orthodox Church? The answer is yes, the Seraphim angels are both recognized and celebrated within the Eastern Orthodox or Russian Orthodox Church. In fact one could argue that the Seraphim angels are the most celebrated within the Eastern Orthodox Church, as opposed to other Abrahamic faiths and Christian denominations. Many Orthodox Saints and priests are named after the Seraphim, such as Saint Seraphim of Sarov, Father Seraphim Rose, and Father Seraphim Johnson to name a few. The Seraphim are also probably the most heavily represented in art within the Orthodox Church, as seen in old Byzantine works such as the breathtaking 14th century mosaics on the walls of the Hagia Sophia basilica.
